Are the boys smiling or do they want summer to last longer? I know a couple teachers who are wishing for a longer summer. Just where did summer disappear to?

This is the time of year when I always had mixed feelings. But now that I'm retired after 34 years of teaching, it's nice to sit on the porch with a cup of coffee in the morning and watch the school buses go by, knowing I don't have to go:)

Oldest Granddaughter just started high school, and Grandchild #4 started kindergarten. It seems like they were just babies yesterday.

When I was a kid, I used to dread the eve of a new school year. That will be my saddest day and the thought of starting school again after all the fun and lazing around during the holidays gives me jitters and rob me of my sleep. Luckily, soon I will settle down to school life and enjoyed the time with classmates and school friends.

This was always a melancholy time of year for me -- I used to dread the time when my girls would return to school, leaving me to my own devices all day and signaling the approaching end of summer. But, we all survived and I still like to watch the little ones board the bus for the first time, those little steps sometimes so unsure. :-)

Tatyana, that is the funniest shot. Makes me laugh out loud, but also feel a tug. My youngest is 38 dare I say and our grandson, soon to be 4, started a pre-school. It goes by too quickly.

Cute post Tatyana. I still get in on a little of the starting of school with taking my Grandsons shopping for some school clothes. Our 2 oldest Grandsons graduated and the youngest is just starting - he's so excited!

Cute photo. No more little ones at home that I have to pack up book bags and lunches for. I'm glad school days are over for us ... it used to be my calendar year... Sept through June... it's what all our schedule revolved around. Enjoyed reading the post about your mom, the dahlias, and how things were for you in Russia.

Was your handsome boys ready to return. I always hated going back. Summer seemed to fly by way to fast when school was out.

Back to school was always one of my favourite times as a kid. Now, with a houseful (albeit, getting smaller year by year) of school-goers and married to a vice-principal, September is the time when this home-based office gets lots quieter. On one hand, I breathe a sign of relief and, on another, one of regret. (If it's possible to breathe with our hands?)

Mine started back up on the 17th, so we've had a good 1 1/2 weeks to get acclimated. I already have 1.5 hours of homework a night. Me? you ask? Yes, when the kids go back to school, so do I helping them with their school work. Life is over as I know it :)

I was sad seeing my daughter leave for school. She's in sixth grade now, she didn't even want me to walk her to class. :(

My baby (18 on tuesday!) starts his senior year on Wednesday. I can't believe how quick his childhood has blurred by. Fun to think that they all get a new beginning each year.
