My First Autumn Containers

Plants: Japanese silver grass 'Gold Bar' (Miscanthus sinensis), Chrysanthemum morifolium.

These containers will be viewed only from one side, that is why the plants are arranged this way. Some space is left for mums to grow. I like the big red containers themselves and try to choose the plants which won't overwhelm them.

We are still enjoying our warm dry September. There are not many obvious signs of fall in my garden yet.

  3. Beautiful! Love your combination of mums and that grass in the red pots. So glad we got a little taste of summer, even if it was in September this year!

  6. You planted some great containers, Tatyana! I love the white mums and the combination with the unusual grass is quite interesting. In my garden I don't have too many plants growing in containers, because they are so hard to keep alive during the summer heat. But now is a good time to get some containers started for the fall. Thanks for reminding me!

  7. I am a little bit jalouse of the weather in the country you live in.
In Holland we had a beautiful spring but somebody has forgotten to bring the summerseason and now we are already in fall.
I love your compositions in the containers.

  8. Thank you, my friends!
I like this combination. But, now when I look at the pictures, I think that three mums per container would be better than two. Although, the current arrangements look good from the house and the porch.

  9. Lovely. I love the white mums. I never thought of planting mums in plantings in containers like that.

  10. I like the white blooms against the red container. And the grass is a touch of the unexpected. You are way ahead of me - I haven't started thinking of fall blooms yet!

  15. Beautiful containers Tatyana. I love the birdbath. Thank you for your kind words of support! One of the things I miss about not being able to blog as much is coming to visit you more often. I hope to be up to it all again in the near future. Your photography is so beautiful you even manage to make a giant slug look handsome.

  16. Love the bold red container...and the beautiful white mums and miscanthus are a great combo.

  17. Those are beautiful combinations Tatyana! But i am awed at the design of that variegated plant looking like grown grasses. The variegations look like they have either some nutrient deficiency or attacked by some pests. I love it, do you have its ID? thanks.

Andrea, the name of the grass is in the post - Miscanthus sinensis.

  21. I love the combination as well. They set off the red of the pot so beautifully.

Now you've motivated me to see about planting our autumn pots... My only hesitation is that I just don't want to admit that fall is here and winter will soon follow!

  22. Gorgeous combos!! I love big ceramic containers like yours but have a tendency to break them. I need pots that bounce! :o)
