  2. Great shot! Do all poppies do that? I noticed it with my smaller ones but not with the big Oriental ones. Nodding head down, then perking up, then bursting into bloom! It's so evocative. Thanks for sharing this observation!

  3. Hi Tatyana~~ Your photo beautifully depicts the stages of the venerable poppy flower. The simple things, when we take time to look, reveal the complexity and dare I say the miracle of life. I find it interesting how all plants have their own internal clock and know when to do what.

    Very nice.

  8. Thank you all and everyone! This plant sure has life after death, keeping hundreds of new beginnings in the seedpod. I love all three stages. Somehow, that stem which is lifting its green head reminds me of a little dinosaur or an alien.

  11. Tatyana,
You have the eye of an artist. I never would have looked at that scene and seen the “the three stages of life”.--Randy

  17. I love those poppies...I have some, but it seems right when they are in their glory either extreme heat or wind and rain push them down too quickly. They are amazing, though, aren't they.
    Great photograph!

  18. Hello my gardening friends! I am so glad you like it! I didn't try to take a picture that would reflect all three stages of a plant's life. I just found it while looking at my June pictures. Randy, I am sure you would notice it, too! Joy, I hear what you are saying. We want something but nothing happens; but, when we stop thinking of it, it's right here! Stop trying and it will fall on your head like that famous apple fell on Newton's.

  21. Poppies are fun. Nice photo. Poppies are special for me because I have some planted around our mailbox and when the kids were small they were popping in the very last days of school as they waited for the bus. It was a fun time to watch them spring out of the buds with my children.
